Hypnosis, once regarded as little more than a primitive ritual, was formally recognized by the American Medical Association in 1957 as a potent weapon in the treatment of many of the problems once deemed “untreatable” by traditional means.

Although the word hypnosis is derived from the Greek word for sleep, there is no connection between hypnosis and sleep. In fact, at no time during a hypnotic state are you unconscious, asleep or out of control. You are able to hear, think, move and even talk while in a hypnotic state.

Hypnosis allows you to make very dramatic changes in a very short time.

All hypnosis

is self-hypnosis

Hypnosis is not a form of medical care or mental health treatment.

Up to 95% of the population can be hypnotized to some degree. Hypnosis allows you to make very dramatic changes in a very short period of time.

Hypnosis is a pleasant and relaxing state of mind, similar to that of daydreaming, in which one becomes very receptive to positive and productive suggestions.

You probably have experienced mild levels of hypnosis before and did not realize it was happening. Hypnosis is a natural ability that the mind utilizes in certain situations. Hypnosis will allow you to listen to the positive ideas, feelings, images, messages and knowledge that your subconscious mind may have been trying to bring to your attention.

If you are seeing a hypnotist for the first time, you probably do not know what to expect; and might have misconceptions about the process. At the initial intake session, the hypnotist will discuss your goals and explain how your subconscious will lead you to just the right depth of trance to accomplish these goals. The hypnotist will simply guide you into a state called hypnosis, and will teach you techniques to enable you to use your own natural ability to change the way you think, feel or behave.

 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What does hypnosis feel like?

A: You will emerge after each session with a feeling of calmness, well-being and deep relaxation. You are always in control and can emerge from hypnosis at any time.

Q: Will I be asleep or unconscious? Will I have amnesia?

A: No, you are entirely aware of what is happening. Hypnosis is not sleep; it is a state of heightened awareness and focus, not loss of awareness. You will not have amnesia and you will remember your hypnosis session.

Q: How do I know if I can be hypnotized?

A: Anyone can be hypnotized if they want it to happen. Only individuals with severe mental health issues and IQ’s lower than 70 would be difficult to hypnotize. Because hypnosis is a natural state of mind and occurs often, some people who experience hypnosis are not sure they were even hypnotized. This is normal.

Q: What do I need to do to prepare for hypnosis?

A: In order to be hypnotized, you must be motivated, prepared to use your imagination and be able to follow simple directions. A good attitude about reaching your goals produces good results.

Q: Can I be made to do things I do not want to do?

A: No, you cannot be hypnotized against your will. You will always reject harmful or inappropriate suggestions.

Q: Can I get “stuck” in hypnosis?

A: No, if you are left alone, you will come out of hypnosisIf you wish to, you can emerge from hypnosis at any time.
